This Chinese culture festival is featured by a traditional Chinese festival – Duanwu Jie, also called Dragon Boat Festival. Duanwu Festival is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, so it is also called Double Five Festival. Duanwu commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan, he was a loyal minister that served the king of Chu during Warring States Period in 3 centuries BC. Mainly there are two kinds of celebration activities on that special day: dragon boat competition and taste of gourmet sticky rice balls (Zongzi).
To complement the festival, NU library joined by San Diego Chinese American Association initialized and sponsored this Chinese art exhibition, which had lasted for about one month started on Jun 11. The artworks displayed here are contributed by four Chinese art schools in north county of San Diego: Rainbow Art Studio (Mr. Yue Jiang, 18 master pieces), Yucai Learning Tree Chinese School (Ms. Larissa, Gorikh, 9 master pieces), Maggie's Art (Ms. Maggie, 42 Master pieces) and San Diego Template University Art School (Ms. Jennie, 38 Master pieces). From those artworks, we selected 21 master pieces to display on San Diego Chinese American Association official web site for your review and comments. Due to the time and space constraints, a lot of excellent art works are not included here. Hopefully you will enjoy it, and give us your question/suggestion if any.
